Atlantic Terminal, at that same hub, is the LIRR’s westernmost stop on the Atlantic Branch; local trains reach Jamaica in roughly 20 to 25 minutes, where riders can transfer to Penn Station or Grand Central Madison on the same fare, per MTA published timetables. That LIRR option is a real differentiator for a Long Island-bound or Jamaica-bound commute against neighborhoods without direct Atlantic Terminal access.
Do I need a car? Eleven subway lines and the LIRR converge within walking distance for most of the neighborhood, so daily transit needs are well covered without one; a car mainly helps for weekend trips outside the subway network.
What’s Being Built Next Door

Pacific Park, the Barclays Center-anchored megaproject once called Atlantic Yards, was approved in 2006 for 6,430 apartments, 2,250 of them income-restricted. One advocate close to the project put full buildout “into 2033” once environmental review and platform construction are counted.

Roughly 850 buildings sit inside the Prospect Heights Historic District, designated by the city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission on June 23, 2009, making it the largest historic district approved since the 2,020-building Upper West Side district in 1990, per contemporaneous reporting.
